Gift bags!

I took plain black and red gift bags and pasted different papers and ribbons onto them to create cheap and "crafty" gift bags!

A lawful, scientific birthday

Another variation...

I really need to find a different way to wish people a happy birthday.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Boiling up a birthday

Friday's Thank You Notes #21 (11/18/11)

l make a list of serious and silly thank you's (a la Late Night) and post a picture of one of my handmade thank you cards on Fridays. Have a happy Friday and a nice weekend! Thanksgiving is next week!
Hand print turkey!
Ohhh it reminds me of those kindergarten days.
THANK YOU...
-cranberry sauce, for striking the perfect balance between tart and sweet. A lot of people could learn from you.

-typical Thanksgiving feasts--meat, starch, starch, starch...oh, and the occasional green bean.

-Christmas music and decorations. Wait, let me look at my calendar for a second. Hmm, it seems to still be November. Poor Thanksgiving.

-times when you share the same sense of humor with someone.

-dreams that seem so real! Why do most of my dreams seem so real? If I'm flying or beating someone up or dating Joseph Gordon-Levitt or something, then I'll know that it was just a dream and not reality. However, if I'm having dreams about making copies at the office copy machine or taking notes at a meeting, it all just seems like reality. When I'm at work, I can't remember if I actually sent an email or if it was a dream!

-the notion that being sad makes people more creative. So, that means that if I'm not creative I must be happy. Creativity or happiness? Which would I take? Wouldn't creativity make me happy, though? GAH, I can't even think right now. I'm going to be a granny and call it a night.

-for reading! Have a great weekend.

Short Weeks

Having three or four-day weekends are great, but sometimes it's really hard to go back to work after a long break. When you have a day off in the middle of the week it's a whole different story. I luckily got Tuesday off because of Election Day (I don't know of any other places that had the day off) and it was great--I went in on Monday, got a break, and then returned for a three-day work week. NYC also happened to have amazing weather on Tuesday!
Looking good, Central Park.
THIS is what autumn should be like.
Hello greeting card.

Friday's Thank You Notes #20 (10/28/11)

l make a list of serious and silly thank you's (a la Late Night) and post a picture of one of my handmade thank you cards every Friday. Have a happy Friday and a nice Halloween weekend!

This is more of a Halloween card than a thank you card. So, um, thank you, Halloween?

THANK YOU, HALLOWEEN...

-for pumpkin carving and lit jack-o-lantern trails!

-for CANDY! and cavities, but CANDY!

-for somehow making it okay for women to be scantily clad. It's actually not okay, but if they want to freeze they can.

Other Works of Art: Mail

Today, I received a letter in this "envelope" from City Harvest, an organization that educates individuals to make healthy dietary choices, feeds the hungry, and supports access to affordable nutritious foods in low-income neighborhoods. The top of the bag says, "27 cents fills this bag with 1lb of food for a hungry New Yorker."

What a simple and innovative way to get people to donate!

It's a really great organization. Check them out!

Sushi Halloween costume!

This is the first year that I somewhat "made" a Halloween costume. Here is a sneak peek!

Orange felt covered in white felt stripes
A red belt covered in black duct tape
A round thin cardboard box made to look like a sushi roll that I'll be using as my "purse"

Friday's Thank You Notes #19 (10/14/11)

l make a list of serious and silly thank you's (a la Late Night) and post a picture of one of my handmade thank you cards every Friday. Have a happy Friday and a nice weekend! I think I'm going to work on my Halloween costume this weekend.
Thanks for breakfast. It doesn't look like a plate or a piece of toast, though.

THANK YOU...
-artichoke hearts, for your poor attempt at making me eat you. The lovely "hearts" in your name will not fool me, buddy.

-haircuts at a salon, for making my hair look amazing...until I wash it and dry it myself.

-the sound a soda can makes when it's being opened.

-freshly laundered sheets and blankets.

-oysters, for being on the "Top 3 Dangerous Foods to Eat" list along with raw sprouts and raw milk. Too bad I'm going to an OysterFest tomorrow...

-the Halloween costume, Anna Rexia, for poking fun at anorexia. Fantastic, that's a great message to send to people. What's the next costume going to be? Dee Pression? Bully Mia? Petey Esdee? It makes me so angry.

-for reading this. Enjoy your weekend!

Fangs so much. Thanks so much. Har har. I'm such a ball of corn.
THANK YOU...
-Steve Jobs.

-Ikea on a weekday night, for being a relaxing stroll along beautifully decorated rooms. Weekends can be a nightmare, but weekdays are amazing. It reminds me of (500) Days of Summer.

-cold and dark mornings. My snooze button has been getting a lot of attention these days.

-pleasant surprises, for being pleasant and surprising. Win win.

Leaves.

I'll probably make more fall seasonal greeting cards than I made for the other seasons combined. Thank goodness I don't have to rake my backyard anymore now that I no longer live in a place with a backyard.

Here's a simple autumn greeting card.

The  leaves on the trees outside are still green.

Friday's Thank You Notes #17 (9/30/11) and CTRL+C and CTRL+V #7

A double feature!!

l make a list of serious and silly thank you's (a la Late Night) and post a picture of one of my handmade thank you cards every Friday--Friday's Thank You Notes #17 (9/30/11)

I don't have a thank you card to share, but I do have a flower.

Have a happy Friday and a nice weekend!!!
A little flower created from the three checkered rolls of tape below. Maybe I can make a wreath one day.
THANK YOU...
-dollar bills that go into a vending machine on the first try.

-perfectly crisp bills that do not go into a vending machine no matter how many times you try.

-times when a person enjoys something I've recommended. Well, it may be because I undersell most things, but still! It makes me feel like I have good taste.

-acquaintances who give a little too much information about themselves. I just came to get a cup of hot chocolate, but if you want to talk about your  issues...um...okay...I'll just sip my hot cocoa and sympathize uncomfortably.

-funny-sounding laughs, for being funnier than the joke.

-times when you're the one out of bunch of people who can successfully twist open a jar. Sure everyone else helped loosen it, but who opened it?

-for reading! Have a nice weekend. Tomorrow is October.

CTRL+C and CTRL+V #6

"Cut and Paste"
I'm trying to do collage work inspired by photographs, advertisements, themes, and quotes. If based on photos or ads, they won't look identical to the original work (partly mainly because I don't have the skills), but I also kind of want them to be interpretative art pieces instead of just copies.

I added strips of masking tape to a glass jar to make a pencil/pen holder. It's not really a collage, but there was cutting and pasting involved.

It found a  new home.
