Other Works of Art: Dalton Ghetti

WOW.

I came across Dalton Ghetti's work of pencil art here and it has left me absolutely speechless! Ghetti, a carpenter, creates mini pieces of art on the tips of pencils by carving the graphite with razor blades, sewing needles, and sculpting knives.

Prepare to be amazed.

Other Works of Art: Mini Mini Hug-Cards

Happy Monday and a happy Labor Day for those in the United States!

Here are some penguin shaped cards from Japan!

A message can be written on the belly once the flippers are unfolded. Aww.

I put one to good use.

Friday's Thank You Notes #13 (9/02/11)

Okie dokie, it's back!

l make a list of serious and silly thank you's (a la Late Night) and post a picture of a handmade thank you card every Friday. Have a happy Friday and a fantastic weekend.

 THANK YOU...

-Have a nice day!
  You too!
conversations for making me incorrectly "you too" someone.
Examples:
*Hotel receptionist: Enjoy your stay at our hotel!
      Me: You too!
*Movie theater ticket collector: Enjoy the movie!
      Me: You too!
    *Wait staff: Enjoy your meal!
      Me: You too!

-those times when you see someone you know, say, "How are you?" at the exact same time , and awkwardly try to figure out who responds first.

-those times when you wake up before the alarm clock. Who just beat the system? Yeah, that's right.

-those times when I can actually calculate something in my head, for assuring me that I don't always have to rely on calculators. Just occasionally.

-times when you really have to walk across a hallway to get somewhere, but two people are standing against both walls having a serious conversation.

-people who break the spine of paperback books. Whyyyyyy? That's like letting me borrow a DVD and telling me it's ok to have a cat scratch it.

-for reading this! Have a nice weekend!

More need for dorky and nerdy cards.

Here is what my previous lab looked like except the picture of a frog was on the door and the giant blue water bath machine didn't look nearly as ancient.

I need more ideas for dorky, nerdy cards. Hmm.

You're Welcome

You're Welcome.
Friday's Thank You Notes will be making a return this Friday. I've finally had a bit more time to make cards and try to come up with things/people/times/places to thank.

I can't believe Labor Day weekend is this weekend. Where did the first 9 months of 2011 go? Really. Where did they go?

Lucky

Sprinkling in some luck
This evening I only had about three minutes to catch a bus from my building! I sprinted! My shoe flew off! I caught the bus! I sat down! Relief! The bus made a funny noise. The bus broke down. I had to get off.

Hahahaha, story of my life.

Birthdays should be happy.

Two happy balloons.
Birthdays.

Sigh.

When you get to a certain age, you don't look forward to them anymore.
Turning 1: I'm finally a positive integer!
Turning 2 : I can be as terrible two-ish as I want and people still think I'm cute!
Turning 10: Yeah double digits!
Turning 15: High school!
Turning 20: One more year and then nothing.
This year...I want to curl up and cry a little.

OK, I'm being too dramatic. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts.

CTRL+C and CTRL+V #5

These days I haven't been updating as much as I'd like to and it may continue to be a card a week instead of a day for a little longer. The same goes for the Friday thank you notes segment. Thanks!

"Cut and Paste"
I'm trying to do collage work inspired by photographs, advertisements, themes, and quotes. If based on photos or ads, they won't look identical to the original work (partly mainly because I don't have the skills), but I also kind of want them to be interpretative art pieces instead of just copies.

GRAH! Making collages of people's faces is really hard. I found a really colorful Lacoste ad (see left) and thought that it would be relatively simple to do because the models wore sunglasses and I wouldn't have to figure out how to do eyes, but I was wrong. The male model looks like he aged twenty years and the woman looks like she is wearing a neck brace. Oh, and the man has no neck. Oops.

Babies, Arthur, and books

Baby shower card
I was just thinking about Arthur, one of my favorite children's book series, and how I recently learned that Arthur is an aardvark. For some reason, I always thought Arthur was a gopher or a bear or something. And he's an aardvark who owns a dog! Wow, the power of imagination. Sigh, the things I learn when I'm an adult.

I don't know why the thought of babies made me think about Arthur and books, but while I'm on this topic...

The rise of e-book readers and Borders' liquidation sales worry me about the future of paper books. If a giant like Borders can't even make it, I can't even begin to think about the hundreds of small independent bookstores that will be affected. Will we eliminate bookstores and just resort to online sellers (Amazon, half.com), or will paper books get eliminated completely? I understand that books take up space and aren't eco-friendly, but I'd like to think that there are too many paper book advocates out there for them to go completely extinct. So sad.

Friday's Thank You Notes #12 (7/22/11)

l make a list of serious and silly thank you's (a la Late Night) and post a picture of a handmade thank you card every Friday. I think today's thank you's are better than last week's disaster. Have a happy Friday and a fantastic weekend.

THANK YOU
...person who says, "So...uh....yeah...awkward silence." Um, it was just regular silence until you just said that.

...the acoustic environment of bathrooms, for making me feel like Mariah Carey, if only for a few minutes each day.

...Glico, for creating a computer-generated pop idol. Oh, Japan.

...the US  and Japanese  women's soccer teams, for playing well this past Sunday.

...Angry Birds movie, for...wait what?! A movie?! Are you serious?
Credit: here

...Passive-Aggressive Notes, for being the best notes to give to someone without hurting their feelings completely. "You do _________ and it annoys me so much I want to call the cops on you, but kisses and hugs!!"

...stubbornness, for being...no actually you're WRONG. I'm right. I hate you. You don't deserve a thank you.

...Pandora radio, for letting me discover new bands/artists, but also for being a big distraction because I have to Youtube all of those band's songs.

...nicely designed book covers. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I think we all kind of do.

...for reading this.

YEAH PANDAS!

Original photo
munch munch
I wish I could just become a panda and eat all day (preferably something not as bland, but I won't be picky). I promise I won't sneeze loudly in front of them so can I live with them for like a day?

Work in progress!
I tried to separate the magazine papers by color.

Punching holes.

Thank you, hole puncher!!

I am going to submit this to Cute Card Thursday's Challenge 173: "Going Round in Circles".
"This week we want to see one or more circles on your card...whether that is the main image or the embellishments...or both, the choice is yours!"
